Setting goals, staying on track, and growing a business during a pandemic.
2020 has been challenging for so many of us in so many ways. But mindset is everything when it comes to successfully navigating a crisis. Here’s how I’ve harnessed the time to grow my business and make every day count.
Christopher Bailey’s 2020 Photography Business Goals
My main goal for 2020 was to develop my Content Amplifier service.
I’ve worked with fitness professionals for years to shoot their perfect physiques, but these days that’s not always enough. What clients increasingly need is access to professional lifestyle photos that form the foundations of a strong social media strategy. This, in turn, boosts their profile, builds followers, attracts more leads and – perhaps most importantly – makes them stand out.
That’s exactly what the Content Amplifier does – and it’s been a hit.
25 fitness clients signed up in the first three months of launching the service. It’s also organically extended to a variety of fields ranging from clothing and supplements to barbers and cosmetic surgery.
Once the Content Amplifier successfully launched, I could see that clients would benefit from having high quality video content to sit alongside the strong imagery they were now posting across their social media channels and websites.
Craig Williams (Ryan Terry’s Videographer) happens to live on my doorstep, and he’s now joined Team Bailey for two days a week to take care of all the branded video content for our Content Amplifier clients.
Dealing with Setbacks – and How to Deal with COVID Lockdowns
Obviously, this year didn’t go to plan for anyone. Even businesses who have thrived during the pandemic couldn’t say they were prepared for what was about to happen. It was a speed bump that was really frustrating at first, but, after a week of contemplating (mostly on the couch, watching Netflix) I accepted that I couldn’t physically shoot, so decided to focus my time on energy on other areas of the business.
I gave the brand a full audit – fixed common issued, redesigned the website, set up automations, improved the client information packs and made a start on my next eBook, ROI – Return on Imagery. Watch this space for its launch.
Routine has also been key to staying on track this year. My schedule usually involves so much international travel – and adapting to different time zones – that I thrived from a routine.
Getting up at the same time each day, getting outdoors, reading and red light therapy are just some of the daily rituals I’ve started incorporating into day-to-day life.
Find out more about my routine here. There’s a full video series to come on this too if you’re keen to learn more about what I get up to in my life NOT behind the lens.
Photographer Christopher Bailey’s Best Moments of 2020
Making it to the Arnold Classic for a sixth year in a row was an amazing experience. Despite the restrictions in place, I was given a backstage pass, which – getting to shoot the angles and emotions of behind the scenes – was a really big deal.
I started working with a mentor this year who’s shown me how I can grow a business that’s not limited to the amount of people I can shoot in a day. Learning to delegate has been a game-changer for developing the business, and I’m planning to do even more of this in 2021.
My friend Lawrence and I also opened a new fully functional gym in London called The Vault. I class this as my Bailey Studio London base and it’s the second place in the UK that I’m proud to say I’ve made my mark on alongside my flagship Bailey Studio in Nottingham.
We worked hard to create a unique vibe that’s perfect for capturing fresh, sharp imagery straight from the camera.
Despite the lockdowns and restrictions this year I’ve been able to work with some of the most incredible people. I’ve made new relationships and have developed more iconic images to add to the portfolio.
And as for 2021…
2021 will build on everything I’ve learnt so far.
Team Bailey will continue to expand, which will allow me even more time to be behind the camera doing what I do and love best.
I also hope we can finally get back traveling, and I’m look forward to the Arnold Classic in the USA, along with its first UK event in October 2021 – which will be hosted by Bailey client and strongman Eddie Hall.
I’m also hoping to make the 2021 Olympia, and be backstage taking shots at the Eddie Hall and Thor boxing match, which is scheduled for September 2021.
Away from the lens, I’ve become a partner in a CBD Brand (Kokora) which will be developed in 2021, and I also have a range of accessories launching in 2021.
I’m excited to see how the Bailey brand continues to grow throughout 2021 and thank you for being part of the journey.
